This original, challenging work is a study in handbell techniques, especially focused on the percussive sounds. Highly syncopated rhythms at a very fast tempo will take practice and intense focus in the beginning and ending sections. A contemplative treatment of the theme in the middle section offers delightful contrast. The piece centers in the key of C, but there are frequent accidentals that add surprising tonal color. It is challenging but will be a joy to perform.
