As indicated by the title, this is indeed a work of contrasts - musically and rhythmically. The first section is written in 3/4, but with the accents you may feel a 6/8 pattern. This interplay is musically organic and should feel quite natural to your handbell choir. The contrasting center section is rich melodically and may be enhanced with the use of handchimes. A return to the motives of the first section closes this fine work. Thisnumber was the winner of the International Composition Contest for the1998 Handbell Symposium in Japan.
